CBC SERMONS - AUDIO

Technical Matters

All sermon files are in MP3 audio format as this is a most common electronic format for voice and music.

Here are some instructions for Windows Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox users.

To play a sermon on your PC directly from the internet simply LEFT (mouse) click on the file. If you have an audio plug-in for Explorer or Firefox (eg. Quicktime) the sermon will play directly in the browser. Otherwise select OPEN from the dialog box. Your default media player (eg. Windows Media Player) will automatically download and play the sermon.

Audio files may be downloaded to your PC for copying to another format (eg. CD burning) of for playing later. To download a file, RIGHT (mouse) click on the file, select SAVE TARGET AS (Explorer) or SAVE LINK AS (Firefox) from the dialog box and then type in where on your PC you would like the file saved. MP3 files may be played by Windows resident software and by a myriad of add-on windows audio applications.

For Safari (Apple), Opera, Linux-type and other browsers, the play and save functions will be similar to those above.

MP3 play/management software can be obtained from TUCOWS or DOWNLOAD.COM among other sites.

MP3s may also be downloaded to iPods and most other portable music players. The software which came with your portable player will enable you to easily transfer MP3 files from your PC to the player.

Audio files can copied to portable media (eg. USB keys) or burned onto CD/DVD in various formats. There are many commercial and shareware programs to enable this. Windows Media Player can also be used to make audio CDs/DVDs.

The audio files are compressed for web/download efficiency and although the audio is less than normal CD quality, it should still maintain above average fidelity.  File sizes for each sermon vary between 5 and 15 MB according to length.

Notes associated with sermons (if available) have file type(s) annotated (eg. Microsoft Power Point).
